Flat Fronted Jacket

I conducted practical experimentations to create a jacket that had a flat panel as part of the design. By its nature, it discusses the idea that through photography clothing is transformed into a flat garment. I wanted this to be a visualisation of this concept.

  1. I like this idea of the representation of fashion, as a lot of fashion garments are portrayed in magazines and advertised in glamorized unrealistic, elaborate ways that don't truly represent the garment or how they would be worn or viewed in real life.

So I think this way of representing the garment is a lot more true to life and strips the garment back down to its origins and at the same time acknowledges the way clothes are advertised, and once photographed the garment is flattened, which is how it started out, as flat pattern pieces. I think this cycle is an interesting process.

The experimentations with the patterns are also really interesting and have produced some really interesting graphical layouts.
